Pål Nygaard is researcher II at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo.

Nygaard is educated as a historian at the University of Oslo and Oslo and Akershus University College of applied sciences with a PhD about the engineering professions history in Norway from 1930 to 1970.

A main topic in Nygaard’s publications is analyzing how certain knowledge fields, and types of knowledge and expertise, are perceived as relevant and appropriate to solve problems.

In his current position as a researcher on BI Norwegian Business School Nygaard is doing commissioned historical research. In 2014 he published a book on the history of the Norwegian road department between 1912 and 1960. From 2015 to 2016 Nygaard was working on a commissioned history of the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology, the former Institute for Atomic Energy. This project was terminated in 2017, due to drastic changes in the institutes economy. Based on the source material gathered from the institutes archives, Nygaard is currently working on articles about nuclear research.
